So this week I got a random call at work from a recruiter with a job for an embedded software engineer. Funny thing is, the job is in Austin, TX. Well, not only am I not looking for a job, but I've decided that the post doesn't fit my interests. The whole Austin, TX thing would take me back to the college days, but in the end, who am I kidding? It sounds like a pretty decent job anyhow. Embedded SW Engineer (Austin, TX)

Designs, develops and debugs processor diagnostics and system software for a Linux or Windows based operating system. Our area of responsibility is diagnostics which includes verification of architectures at various stages in the product cycle (silicon bring-up – manufacturing). Therefore, diagnostic/BIOS/Firmware/driver experience are also helpful backgrounds.

We need strong programming experience with low and higher level x86 programming skills. A very strong sense of PC arch. along with bus interface protocols like PCI, Memory, etc. Good x86 hardware/software debug skills. These are minimum requirements.

SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. designs processor diagnostics running under a Linux or Windows operating system. 2. Develops and debugs processor diagnostics and other system software in order to achieve production worthy diagnostic software products. 3. Works with various product design and process teams to define and implement new diagnostics. 4. Works with various product engineering teams to provide support for processor diagnostics and other related issues. 5. Writes user manuals and other documentation needed to qualify and test the processor diagnostics.

Client is a Fortune 500 company. They have excellent benefits, bonus averaging 20%, stock options, and full relocation package.
