Eight days ago, I decided to place some detailed statistics gathering code on my homepage. This service is free of charge from ExtremeTracking.com. The tracker that they provide gathers quite a few more details than just a plain server log.

So I was browsing through the information earlier and noticed that visitors found my site from over 47 countries in the last eight days! I guess there's no doubt that people all over the world are interested in free text messages. Unfortunately for most of these visitors, GoText only supports major U.S cellular carriers. This means that approximately 61% of the visitors are disappointed after they get here.

As depressing as it all sounds, there is some hope. I've done quite a bit of research into supporting International SMS and the potential is very promising. Although it cannot be done for free, taking advantage of the buying power of a large group of people could yield great savings for everyone. I've finished up some blueprints for how the service would work, so hopefully I'll be able to begin work on this project in the coming weeks.
