Use this application wisely!!! IMPORTANT NOTE IMPORTANT NOTE IMPORTANT NOTE GoText v1.06 (c) 2004-08 Byron Schiel www.stumbleinside.com What's new in V1.06? ----------------------------- - Ability to change the default behavior when pressing - Command line disabled to prevent usage by spammers What is GoText? --------------- GoText is a simple and easy to use text messaging app that allows you to send text messages from your PC to your friend's phone. It is easier and faster than using your phone, and it could even save you a buck or two in messaging charges. It is the perfect solution for when you are sitting around the dorm room or the apartment and have quick access to a PC. When you send messages, your friend can reply to your phone number or an email address (if their carrier supports it) just as if you had sent the message from your phone. Features -------- - Address Book. Store names and numbers within GoText to quickly send messages without retyping. Import names and numbers from other email or messaging applications. - Send messages to multiple recipients by placing all of the destination numbers in the "To" box seperated by commas. You can also type in names from the address book or use the address book "Send To" button to add all of the selected names to the "To" box. - Recent numbers list. The most recently used names and numbers will appear in the drop down lists of the "To" and "From" boxes. Using GoText ------------ When GoText opens, type a destination mobile number in the "To" box. Put your number in the "From" box. Enter your message and hit "Go!" The from box allows you to specify a name, number and email address all at the same time. This information will be passed on to the recipient of your message so that they can reply to your message from their phone. Not all of the information is required. You can just enter your name and number if you wish. Entries must be seperated by a comma. For instance, the entry "Johnny Blow, 954-555-6722" will provide the recipient with a name, and their replies will be sent to the number. It's pretty easy. To use an email, just enter "Joe Jackson, joknows@raiders.net". The order of the name, number, and email is not important but they must be seperated by commas. GoText will automatically remember the last 10 "To" entries, and the last 5 "From" entries. MyInfo ------ With MyInfo you can enter you name and number and/or email once and it will always be available when you get ready to send a message. The "MyInfo" option is always the last option in the "From" dropdown list. If the entry reads "MyInfo...", MyInfo is not set up. To set up MyInfo, click on the Options button. You can then enter your information. Once MyInfo is set up, you can select it in the "From" dropdown box when sending messages. From the keyboard, you can type "myinfo" into the "From" box and hit the Tab key. This will insert the MyInfo information into the "From" box. You can also type "myinfo..." and hit the Tab key. This will open the options where you can update MyInfo. Address Book ------------ If you click on the "Address Book" button, the address book will pop out. You can add, edit, and delete address book entries using the obvious buttons. Once you have made an entry in the address book, you can double click the entry to place it in the "To" box. You can also type the name into the "To" box and the number will be used from the address book when your message is sent. You can send a message to multiple people by selecting all of the desired address book entries (hold CTRL while clicking) and then clicking the "Send To" button. This will place all of the selected names into the "To" box seperated by commas. Also, you can right double-click any entry in the Address Book to append it to the "To" box. You can choose how the address book is displayed on startup on the options. The address book can be always closed or always open or you can select "last setting" which will remember the state of the address book the last time you ran GoText. You can also specify the carrier for each address book entry. This will ensure reliable delivery of your messages. If you don't know the person's carrier, leave this box blank. GoText will auto-update the carrier when you send your first message to the person, if the carrier can be determined and is supported. Importing Data into the Address Book ------------------------------------ You can import names and numbers from any CSV file. CSV stands for "comma seperated values." More info on the CSV format can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comma-separated_values To import from a CSV file, right-click anywhere in the Address Book and select "Import Contacts...(CSV)". You will be prompted to select the file that contains the data you want to import. Select the file and click "Open". GoText will then parse the first line of your file which should contain the titles for the fields contained in your file. If your file does not contain a line with the field titles, you will see the first line of data from your file in the GoText dropdown lists. Next, select the fields to import from the file as Names and Numbers. The first two items found in the file will automatically be selected. Verify these selections and click "OK". That's it! Not all records from the file will be imported in some cases. Specifically, if the Name is empty or if the Number does not contain 10 digits, the record will be skipped. You can create CSV files from many popular programs. Please refer to documentation for your program to learn how to export your data to a CSV file that can be used by GoText.
